So what’s happening?

I have been receiving emails and calls from interested sailors for over almost two years now. I have emailed back with promises that I have been unable to keep. The plans were not ready on time and still aren’t.

Sadly life has caught up with me and I have had to pay back the goodwill from my family that I borrowed to make Cats-paw and the Breeze 7 computer model and hulls. This means I have had to go back to paying work and be a proper Dad – taking kids to sailing, soccer, music practice etc.

On top of this our house got hit by a storm last year and we are still getting over that – the backyard needs more work and our boys need an extra room.

Most importantly I have come to the realisation that no family can realistically hold onto 3 sailing cruisers. Cats-paw is a great boat that will be sold when the Breeze 7 plans are available. My wife and I are really excited about the Breeze 7 especially after spending a week on Cats-paw with the kids. Cats-paw sails so sweetly in bays and harbours, short tacking where we usually motor and sliding up gorgeous beaches for a lunchtime stop. She must be the only 6 metre trailer sailer that allows a family of 4 to go away from a week and have no issues with privacy. I was even able to pull the dinghy out of the water at night. The Breeze 7 will be roomier and sail even better and we are excited about revisiting the Whitsundays, Great Keppel Island and other favourite spots. We will even be able to ftt these sojourns into our normal working lives. We look forward to finishing the Breeze 7 so we can test her fully in lots of different spots.

Our 38 foot catamaran Kankama – our home for three years and in whose cabin I came up with the idea of the Breeze folding system is a major part of our lives. Last year she received 8 weeks out on the hard to get a new aft deck and have some modification work done. She is a fabulous boat but almost six years after returning from cruising we have come to realise that she doesn’t get the use she needs. I walk down to her every morning and check her but she deserves to be on the ocean – she hasn’t felt a swell for over a year now.

So Kankama has to be sold, or made ready for sale, so that I can get back to concentrating on the Breeze 7 with no distractions. This is going to take me some time. She is getting a new deckhouse and wheel steering and the huge aft locker (built to take all my tools, windsurfer gear and four bikes) will be converted into a normal style rear cockpit. With a new paint job and windows Kankama will look better than ever. But all this will take time and effort.

So I have to put the Breeze 7 on hold until Kankama is ready. Then it will be back onto the Breeze 7 and full steam ahead.

Please keep an eye on the website to see when things start up again.

Thanks

Phil Thompson
